Dr Lauren Andersson is a consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She provides consultation and procedural support to the gastroenterology service at the Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals as a visiting specialist.
Born and raised in Darwin, Dr Andersson was a junior doctor at the Royal Darwin Hospital before relocating to Western Australia to complete her training as a Gastroenterologist. While in the Northern Territory she spent additional time in Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and participated in numerous rural and remote outreach specialist clinics. In Western Australia, Dr Andersson completed her Gastroenterology training with a fellowship year in liver transplant at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Dr Andersson is now based in Melbourne at the St Vincents Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre having commenced a PhD which aims to research new and novel biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Dr Andersson has experience in general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology including liver transplant and gastroscopy/colonoscopy. She is a current member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Gastroenterological Society of Australia, and European Association for the Study of the Liver. Identifying the Northern Territory as home, Dr Andersson is grateful to have an opportunity to support the health service and the patients of her community.
