Dr Melissa Carroll

MBBS, MPH, FRACP

Dr Melissa Carroll is a proud Aboriginal woman of Wiradjuri decent and the first Gastroenterology Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP). She currently works as a Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist & General Physician in the Northern Territory, at the at the Royal Darwin Hospital and holds the appointment of Clinical Senior Lecturer, Charles Darwin University. Dr Mel trained in both metropolitan and regional centres throughout Australia, including Darwin before undertaking advanced training in Victoria at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She subsequently completed specialist Gastroenterology & Hepatology training in Newcastle, NSW where she is originally from and maintains strong community and professional ties. Dr Mel is a senior First Nations representative on various National health advisory committees and is actively involved in clinical education and research – focusing on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Dr Mel offers a holistic approach to managing her patients and has a special interest in complex liver disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition and other gastrointestinal diseases. She is a professional member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and as part of continuing education, regularly attends and presents at local and international meetings. She performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy at the Darwin Private Hospital.
